During my missing streak, when I didn't post on Always Standing from June to September there was so fairly big things that happened - aside from starting a small businesses (though frequently related.)
Here are some things that happened...
- Got to Long Point a bit, but not nearly enough
- Summer Solstice Event involved a full road closure and wasn't as tiring this year
- I had a big team at the office with three students hired for the summer
- Kristen, Noah, Jason and I went on a road trip, got to do some white water rafting
- Mom and I went to Las Vegas, she did five posts about it on her blog
- We got our driveway re-paved and the roof done at Casa Verde
- Had an awesome day at Wonderland with Jeska, as is tradition

Valentine's Day Quiz - Questions
I noticed a fun Facebook status from Jeska today. It said in honor of Valentine's Day, all couples should answer the following questions and make it their status.
Couples: Since this is a blog and not Facebook, cut and past the list into the comments! You can either fill it out from your perspective or call your partner over and ask them to answer.
- Who's older?
- Who was interested first?
- Married?
- Together?
- More sarcastic?
- Who makes the most mess?
- Who has more tattoos?
- Better singer?
- Hogs the remote?
- Better driver?
- Smarter?
- Most common sense?
- Whose siblings do you see the most?
- Do you have any children together?
- Did you go to the same school?
- Who is the most sensitive?
- Where do you eat out most as a couple?
- Where is the furthest you two have traveled together?
- Who has the worst temper?
- Who does the cooking?
- Who is more social?
- Who is the neat freak?
- Who is the most stubborn?
- Who hogs the bed?
- Who wakes up earlier?
- Where was your first date?
- Who has the bigger family?
- Do you get flowers often?
- Who does the laundry?
- Who drives when you are together?
- Who picks where you go to dinner?
- Who wears the pants in the relationship?
I also want to say that I was so happy to read their lists and learn more Jeska and her beau. I met him on our Wonderland trip this year and thought he was perfect for her! Joe is amazing and I am so excited for them.
I look forward to seeing your responses in the comments, and stay tuned to Always Standing for mine and Jason's over the next couple of days.

Wonderland
Keeping up with tradition, Jeska and I went to Canada's Wonderland today and rocked the park! Even though there was a midday thunderstorm we didn't let that deter us from sticking around, waiting it out, and continuing with our plans to do every ride in the park
Breaking with tradition, we brought other people. Both Andrea and Joe turned out to be true 'ride warriors' as Jes would say. It was so much fun, always an amazing day.

Paper Productivity
On a quick step away from all the house related posts, I went to The Cottage this weekend to work on some wedding preparations.
In order to keep our budget down, Jason and I are trying a lot of tips and techniques to cut costs. One of those is to do your own flowers. It was hard to find a good cost estimate but I knew that this was is an area that can cost anywhere from $500 to $5,000. It all depends on what specific flowers are chosen, whether they are in season locally or not, size and number of bouquets needed, and if any decorations or centerpieces are getting made.
Both Kristen and Jenn found ways to save on flower costs but still have beautiful fresh flower bouquets. Jenn got her's done by a grocery store florist, I know because I picked them up for her. Kristen's mom put her's together the morning of the wedding from flowers bought at a farmers' market. These would have been smart options for us as well but as soon as fresh flowers are used it means more work and organization on the actual day - bouquets using other materials can be done well ahead of time and don't add to the day-of organization.
So this weekend, using some outdated brochures that were going to get thrown away, Teri, K, Tessa, Kristen, Jeska, and I gathered glue guns and scissors around the dining room table down at Long Point and got to work. And work we did! Jason and I have a large wedding party so that meant EIGHT bouquets to make yesterday. We finished and they look great. See the photo above - paper roses, mainly in blue. One more thing to check off the list of things to do before the wedding.

Wedding Work
Sunday Mornin' Coming Down - A post about my Dad each Sunday, named after a song that he loved.
This evening I need to spend some time setting up the website about Jason and my wedding, as well as, sort out the wording for our (email) invitations. We hope to get these sent out during the first week of February so that doesn't really leave us a lot of time. I thought today I would post a photo of Dad (with Mom) at Mike's wedding:
I love the expression on Mom's face. They were both so happy and proud. And how could we not be? Aimee is amazing, we are all so lucky to have had her join our family.
As for my upcoming wedding, it will be difficult to go through such a big milestone without Dad there. My current coping strategy for that is to just not think about it, and wedding planning is so overwhelming that it has been pretty easy to not focus on that aspect. I will need to spend some time reflecting and feeling and dealing with the fact that my father won't be at my wedding, because all that emotion shouldn't be ignored until the day of.
Back to the photo, my mom's hands also look so good here! Is she clapping? Also, that is totally Jeska who is slightly out of focus behind them.

Goodbye To Bon
--- as given in the morning of Saturday February 28, at William Kipp Funeral Home in Paris at the funeral service for Yvonne Fountain
Hello, for those who don’t know me, my name is Christine Sweeton and Mrs. Fountain babysat my brother and I growing up. However, that description is far too casual for our relationship, as we have always considered her part of our family.
My mother is out of the country but I asked her to write to me about Bon. (I couldn't pronounce Yvonne when I was younger, I don’t know if my family is alone is using that nickname.) My mom described Bon as a third grandmother, which I think fits. I was always strangely jealous when she talked about her actual grandchildren, which she did often because she was so proud of all of them, and excited about their accomplishments.
Almost 30 years ago, my parents moved here and put an ad in The Paris Star looking for someone to care for their one and half year old baby – me. They interviewed people and Bon was the least likely candidate: gruff, a heavy smoker, and seemed old. (She may have looked older 30 years ago, when she wasn't, but then she didn't age. She has looked the same for as long as I have known her.) Well, my parents may have been skeptical but they were taken by how calm and caring she was – and I loved her right away, which sealed the deal. Toddlers often get what toddlers want.
She then became a part of our family. She came over in a moment’s notice when my mom went into labour with my brother, and took care of me. She was a regular fixture in our neighbourhood and often helped other families, like The Smiths, if a kid was home sick.
My family was devastated to hear a few months ago that Bon was sick. She never got sick – she was the one to look after us when we were sick. And the best part of that care, that she gave everyone in her family, was her laugh and her hugs. Her hugs were amazing! So much loved wrapped around you in a sweatshirt – she owned a lot of sweat shirts.
This is something I realized when I got older, thinking back to my childhood, and looking through Facebook photos of her. Yeah, she’s on Facebook and has been for a long time. Bon was always cooler than my parents. It was through Facebook that I discovered she was a night owl. I would be up studying in the middle of the night and she would message me. I couldn't believe she was up so late – she said she always was. When did she sleep? She used to be at our house early in the morning, and she walked there from Willow Street.
She walked everywhere. And when you were with her, you had to walk everywhere too – and not complain about it. She didn't really let us whine about anything, or stamp our feet, or ‘talk back.’ But I would not consider her strict – she was very protective.
Of everyone I know, she was the most upset when my brother, Mike, joined The Military. In fact, the late night Facebook chats were usually on one of two topics – Was Mike still in the Army? and, When was I going to finally get married? And if you all want the report – it is ‘not yet’ on both fronts.
Becoming Bon's friend as an adult opened my eyes to how strong and dynamic of a woman she was. And also tiny! I don’t know how such a firecracker of a person fit in such a little package. But her love was huge!
It is wonderful to see so many people here to support her family. This is a heartbreaking loss and I hope the good memories of her joy and her strength can give you peace.

I'm A Grown Up?
------ from Tumbler, sent to me by Jeska
I keep thinking, "Oh man, I'm so immature. How am I allowed to be an adult?"
Then I spend time with teenagers.
And it's like, "Wow, okay, yeah. I am an adult. I am so adult. Look at me adulting all over the place here."

Teri Found Me!!
In July, Coca-Cola launched it's Share a Coke campaign in Canada. Basically they changed the labels on 27 million bottles each of which features one of Canada's 290 most popular names (of people in their teens, 20's, and 30's). The Globe and Mail ran an article about it back at the start of summer. I don't think I noticed the names on the bottles until August or so, but since then I have been looking for my name - it is never there! When we went to Wonderland together this year, Jeska suggested that it was probably only the top 100 names and that Christine wasn't on the list anymore. Jeska finds her's (Jessica) all the time.
Well, when Jason and I went to go pick up Two in Oakville yesterday, Teri had a bottle with my name on it! (She very kindly looked after Two while we were away.) It is the 4th month of these bottles and I now have one. Then I decided to look it up and it turns out Teri wasn't printed, but you can make a digital one:
I think it is such a brilliant campaign. The thing with Coke is that if you want one, you are going to go buy one but they have now found a way to get you to buy one without even wanting it, buying one for someone else! In Teri's case, she wanted one and went to buy it, saw my name and bought an extra one. Genius marketing! I bought one for Noah when I found his and seriously have been looking for my name for months.

Turning 30
It is Steph's birthday today! She is turning 30, and is the first of my friends (not counting Jason, Jeska, James, or JennD) to do so. Okay, so she is the first of my friends who I think of as 'the same age as me' to do so, and who's name does not start with a J. (Sucks to be born at the start of the year sometimes.) She is calling it her 29+1 birthday, which is a bit like Anne saying she is 5'13". On her blog she did a bit of a recap of her year and included a photo collage, which Jason and I are a part of! (We are the kissing couple in the sparkler heart.) I hope the Steph had an amazing birthday and the her 30's are as great as her 20's were.
Happy Birthday Steph, I love you!

Meet Ava
Mid-Week Friend Update - A Wednesday feature that provides a small update on what is happening with the incredible people that I have in my life.
One of the two most important babies in my life - just had a baby! I would like to introduce you to Ava and she is beautiful.
I can't wait to meet her in person, I have been dealing with this stupid cold so have been staying away for now. While I want to get better, I get to look at pretty baby pictures on Facebook. Here are her baby details: Born on Feb 27th 2014 at 3:21am; 8lbs 2oz and 22" long to James and her husband.
The reason James is one of the two most important babies in my life (the other being Jeska) is that without her birth and subsequent adorableness my parents may never have had kids. My Dad didn't think he wanted children but when Jeska and Jamie were born he changed his mind. So a year and a bit later, I was born. And now Jamie has a baby! (Who I hear is perfect, and sure to inspire many to change their minds about having kids.)

No Make Up Selfie
Jeska nominated me yesterday as part of this recent Facebook/Twitter trend. Connected to Breast Cancer Awareness, those nominated need to post a barefaced photo within 24 hours. I gather there is some sort of controversy about this viral campaign but I don't have time to research it at the moment. Here is mine, though most of my pictures are barefaced since I don't wear make up 95% of the time, this one is a bit worse because it is morning, I am at work, it was taken with a webcam, and I have a cold:
Please consider making a donation towards Breast Cancer research today; I would suggest doing so through The Breast Cancer Society of Canada.

On Steph's Playbook
A little while ago I wrote about Jeska's iPad, well now I'm on Steph's Playbook. Now, I just really want a tablet, of any kind! It is something that I am going to start researching, once I have some money.

I Want An iPad
I am writing this post on Jeska's iPad, which is amazing! I have seen them used but never actually touched or used one myself. It is just like a big iPhone - I just love it. Totally going on my Christmas list, which I promise will be posted soon.

I'm In A Parking Lot
So, as aforementioned, I am not doing so well internet wise. The dial-up at the cottage is terrible, I was able to get on Facebook a few days ago to update my status and send a couple of messages. I also was able to bang out a quick Always Standing post. However, after waiting 2 hours, my yahoo email still hadn't loaded. Which is a problem because I not only am missing important emails from friends, but also from Ryerson about my TA stuff and the start of my program. I took a drive into Brantford and brought the little netbook in hopes of grabbing some decent wifi somewhere. I met up with Jeska for lunch and mentioned my predicament. She said, "Oh, go to William's Coffee pub and sit in the parking lot." This is genius!! I was planning on going there anyway since it is one of the places in Brantford that has free internet access but I didn't really want to order anything because it is a bit expensive and I wasn't in the mood for coffee. So here I sit in the parking lot with decent enough wifi and I can't wait to see what the 17 emails in my inbox are!!

Bottle Service
Jeska is here for the weekend visiting, she came with her boyfriend, Duke, who is a DJ. We wanted to go out last night, but to a club instead of our usual pub-type experience. After much discussion and research, we picked Manson (which was Heaven last time I went.) We decide that we wanted to go all out and get bottle service, which isn't cheap but is awesome. It has changed my club-going experience forever.
-Our own VIP entrance and coat check
-Escorted to our booth by our waitress
-One of 6 booths in a separate private area
-Our own waitresses and bouncers
-Very few people were allowed in our section
-View of the dance floor
-Jugs of mix; cranberry, 7-up, OJ, Diet coke
-40 of Absolute on ice
-Lots of glasses and a bucket of ice
-Right beside the DJ
-Allowed to do pretty much whatever we wanted
-Basically treated like rock stars all night
It was great to have a place to get away from the crowded dance floor, though we also danced in our booth and in the area in front of it that was above the dance floor. I got to take my purse, with an extra pair of shoes, because there was a safe place to leave it - our booth. Seriously, it rocked. I always want to get VIP Bottle Service from now on. (Luckily a lot of the places I go don't offer it, so it isn't even an option.)

Cleo Eyes Under Curly Hair
Yes, I took it of myself! Heading out on the town night or two after New Years with Jeska. (The "town" being Brantford.) It isn't really my "usual" self-portrait so I thought I would post it to show that I can take a picture of myself that has a, be it slightly, different head tilt and expression.
