An Urban Mouse Catcher

Rasta catches real mice out when he visits my Aunt and Uncle. Even though he is an indoor cat, they live in the country and their house is over 100 years old. His extra thumbs/paw make it even easier for him.

Two on the other hand - is a city cat. She would have no idea how to catch a mouse. The type of mice that she attacks are attached to laptops:

"Don'ts worry guyz, Iz gots dis!
Iz am on de mooose. Iz sits on dit."

Mouse Crisis, Part Seven

I haven't had to deal with mice in a long time. Die Höhle is pretty good and we haven't seen a mouse yet, many large and creepy basement bugs mind you. I am terrible with mice, it is totally an irrational fear, I know they can't hurt me but I just can't handle them. I spent a few days a Teri's cottage and they are having a bit of a mouse issue. Ter and her friends regaled me with stories of a previous guest supposedly waking up with mice on her in the middle of the night. I think the person was either lying or dreaming, but it still freaked me out. No drama the first night, though Ter said that she didn't sleep well because she could hear mice all night in her room. The second night, Ter's friend K and I heard one in ours. We freaked out and woke everyone up. Sure enough it ran out of the room a short time later, I watched it go from my perch standing on a couch. There was this sonic mouse repeller thing that we plugged in, in hopes of keeping K and my room free of mice for the rest of the stay and there were no further issues. But the damage had already been done, I was too scared to sleep well.

Growing Up

I have lived away from my parents for a number of years now and I'm well into my 20's. Change isn't instantaneous. You don't automatically become an adult after turning a certain age. I'm not all grown up yet but I think I am definitely a big kid now. Slowly, I'm learning and dealing with some key things:
-pulling out the gunk in the kitchen sink's drain
-doing my own taxes and having to pay
-listening to the advice of others
-changing light bulbs and hanging pictures
-taking out the trash
-accepting disappointment with dignity
-cleaning out cat litter
-going to bed at a decent time when having to wake up early
-buying a vacuum
-hooking up the internet and installing the new modem
-sewing on buttons
-putting money towards rent, toilet paper, and tuition
-spell checking an e-mail before sending it
-having breakfast
-using a hammer, a level, and screwdrivers with ease
-paying off loans
-making and eating salads
I'm not all the way there. I'm no where near ready for the responsibility that is mortgages, or marriage, or babies, or a circular saw. I also can't handle live mice or any type of dead animal. Still, I think I maybe maturing.

Mouse Crisis, Part Six

They're back! I don't know if they they just had a bunch of babies or were sleeping over the winter and have just woken up, but we had a mouse in our house the other night. We always hear them in the walls but haven't seen them running around in a while. I was sleeping and Jerrica was on my computer when she saw one out in the hall. It came into my room and at this point Jerrica ran across the room, jumped up on my bed and started screaming. I'm not used to my roommates freaking out about mice, usually I'm the only one. Wes, Em, and Ami have all had to save me from them in the past. Well, Jerrica and I stood on the bed in hysterics until we woke up Em who came and tried to catch it. It got away from her but I hope it learned it lesson and stays away.

Mouse Crisis, Part Five

I was warned a couple days ago that mice might be around. Tonight I took a nice long bath only to return to my room to find a tiny dead mouse lying just inside my doorway. Binx must have killed it during my bath, or sometime earlier and I just hadn't noticed. This left me alone in the house, wearing only a towel, and fairly upset. My roommates were all gone. Em is tree planting for the start of the summer, The Boy Roommate is still in Madrid, Ami and The New Roommate were out at the movies. I frantically called around trying to find someone to come and dispose of the bleeding carcase. I stayed downstairs watching TV until just after midnight when Ami and The New Roommate returned home. We played the "Your A Boy" card and The New Roommate kindly cleaned it up for me.

Mouse Crisis, Part Four

They are back! While watching Sex and the City last night with Ami and Em, I gather a mouse fell off the stairs and down into the hall. Ami quickly said "Chris close your eyes, there is a mouse." This prompted me to leap up and stand on the couch. There was no screaming or crying though, I'm slowly getting better at handling it. Em and Ami chased it around the TV stand for a while with a take-out container and shoe. It was grey, tiny, and very cute. When caught it released outside alive. Binx ignored the whole event.

CRISIS, Mouse Crisis, Part Three

I was watching TV late tonight, when Binx walked down the stairs carrying a half dead mouse by the tail in her mouth, she dropped it in the main hallway in front of me. I screamed, as per usual, and Ami came again to take care of it, she can't handle much more of this. I then burst into tears and have pretty much been crying since. I'm just so scared and alone, it is so hard to deal with by myself, I have no where to hide or place to escape, no one to hold me, comfort me, protect me. I can't handle this, I'm not strong enough. My mouse crisis has pretty much turned into a breakdown.

Mouse Crisis, Part Two

Last night I came home with Kristen and her roommates. I gave them a house tour since TallT, WifeT, and the Princess had never seen Le Manior before. We saw a mouse, well most of us just freaked out, screaming and running away. Ami went to go look for it, but it quickly escaped. Later on, after the girls had gone home, I was typing on my computer when I heard Binx outside my room rushing around. Little mouse screams quickly followed. I started shrieking, and Ami and Em came to my rescue. After the mouse ran behind my shelves, they told me to go downstairs for a while and everything would probably sort itself out. When I returned to my room, all was fine and I went to sleep. I was woken up by noise and more mouse screams. I made a quick exit out my second door and down the back staircase to Ami's room. She went up the front stairs and returned laughing a bit later "Oh something is definitely dying up there." I had to explain to her that Binx doesn't really successfully kill them. Ami headed up again and had to finish it off, then dispose of it outside. She is the bravest person I know, you would think someone like that would be harder but she is sweet, feminine, and sensitive, yet she is still my Knight In Cotton Pajama Pants.

Mouse Crisis

I was setting the table for Thanksgiving dinner in Le Manoir. A cute little grey baby mouse walked into my sight in the sunroom. It seemed calm and just walking around when I noticed Binx was stalking it. I started screaming at her, but she just kept following the mouse about 3 inches behind it. The little mouse really didn't seem to mind and popped down a hole. I was still screaming at Binx to get away from the hole when the mouse popped up again (this is a very dumb mouse, according to Darwin it should probably die.) The mouse started walking around again with Binx following it. I ran to the phone to call W. in screaming crying hysterics, all the while I could hear squeaky little mouse screams. Convinced Binx had killed the mouse and it was lying somewhere in the dining or sunrooms disemboweled I called everyone I could think of to come rescue me. Steph, My Cool Boss, W., everyone just laughed at me. I snuck back to the area on total edge only to find no dead mouse and another (or the same) little grey mouse wandering around.
