AFK Not AWOL

I caught mild flu (really just a low-level fever and the aches and pains that go with that) which I have been battling since Wednesday. We are also working on the house a lot at the moment. So for these reasons I haven't posted for a while.

I didn't go AWOL (a-wall) since that stands for Absent WithOut Leave, and because I run Always Standing, I gave myself leave from it. I realized that for the past few years I have been saying A.O.L. for this concept, but that isn't right! No one says A.W.O.L., they make it a word/phrase A Wall. Also, AOL is nothing, it is just an old internet company America OnLine.

AFK is from the gaming/chat world and stands for Away From Keyboard. Jason and I have been watching The Guild on Netflix right now, so that is where the gaming short hand is coming from.

TB - June 2006

Throwback Thursday - I started writing Always Standing in June 2006. Here is a look back at a previous month of my life. To read in chronological order, scroll to the bottom of the page and read up. Suggestion: Click on the first post of the month and use the Newer Post to view the posts with comments.

Let's start at the beginning! Almost 8 years ago I started Always Standing on June 12, 2006. I don't even really understand my very first post or the reason that it gives for starting the blog. However, I think I remember that I had planned to review movies here - something I rarely, if ever, do. The rest of the posts are mainly about working at Subway and Second Cup, it was a really busy summer but a fun one.

Noted Post: The Story Of My Heart is a cute little recap of my relationships up to dating W.

Who Am I?

-Watching The Ugly Truth, rented it
-Playing World of Warcraft, so addicted again
-Chili simmering on the stove, which Jer and I made earlier
First off I never cook, and secondly who plays an MMORPG while watching a chick flick?

DVD

The best special feature on a DVD is always the 'Gag Reel'. If there is an 'Alternate Ending', which is very rare, than that is good too. The rest of the special features are always stupid and usually have to many clips of the movie you just watched. The DVDs I have for Willow and Labyrinth though have these 'Original Making-Off Featurette' which are from the 1980's so really get into all the strange things they did for special effects. Since it is before computer graphics they were really creative.

Time Crunch

My deferred exam is two weeks earlier than I thought. I don't think I'm screwed because of this, just slightly inconvenienced. I will have to take a lighter work schedule (the week after next) to allow for studying. I have 9 lectures to watch on DVD, which means I need to start watching one a day. So much for a social life.

Public Desperation

I might actually say, Accidental Public Desperation. I went for a walk to the local video store to rent another "Sex and the City" DVD. I thought it would be cute and witty to change my MSN name to "Chrisbinx is looking for le sex (going to rent Sex and the City)". This was then met with an odd reaction and many people I hadn't talked to in ages messaged me, and then ...sadly... there was no reaction from others.

4 Down, 2 To Go

Tundra Video has a Sunday Special... 3 New Releases for $10... I got 6 of course. I have therefore spent the last few days watching movies, usually with one or more roomate. This has left me with a headache, and the need to start a Blog.
