Smells Like Burning

JennB came back inside from walking the dogs this morning and said that it seemed like something was on fire outside, that the air smelt smoky and looked foggy. When we both left to catch the bus I noticed that this was indeed the case and assumed it was from one of the many houses with fireplaces or perhaps someone with a big backyard burning leaves (I think one of our neighbours does this on occasion.) It smelt very nice, like a camp fire. I would think that a house fire wouldn't smell very good. Once we got downtown, it was still there!! Checking with a few co-workers and it was smoky near their houses too, all over Ottawa! The current guess is that it is from the huge forest fires in central and northern Quebec. More than 50 forest fires are burning right now in Quebec, including eight that remain out of control.
